MO & ME (1)
Born in Kenya in 1943, Mohamed “Mo” Amin – photographer and frontline cameraman extraordinaire – was, arguably, the most renowned photojournalist of his era. In a career spanning more than thirty years, Mo covered every major event in Africa and beyond, enduring 28 days of torture, surviving bombs and bullets, and even overcoming the loss of his left arm, to emerge as the most decorated news cameraman of his time. His coverage of the 1984 Ethiopian famine spurred the greatest-ever act of giving. His haunting, apocalyptic images from Korem inspired the launch of Band Aid, USA for Africa and Live Aid – thus saving the lives of millions of men, women and children. Shockingly, his remarkable life was cut tragically short in 1996 when hijackers took over Ethiopian Airlines Flight 961 - forcing the Boeing 767 to crash land in the Indian Ocean with the loss of 123 passengers and crew. Indomitable to the end, Mo Amin died on his feet attempting to reason with the terrorists. (Kenya, 2006, 96 minutes) -
