Founded and led by award-winning broadcast journalist Juliana Tafur, Orkidea is a full service news, documentary and entertainment production company with offices in Rio de Janeiro and Washington, DC. The company specializes in field producing, shooting and writing television programs in Latin America for news, documentary and entertainment networks worldwide.

 

Fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese, Ms. Tafur is a graduate of Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. She began her career with Univision WMDO in Washington where she undertook freelance assignments as a reporter, weather presenter and entertainment anchor. She later reported for Fox News affiliate, KVRR Fargo before moving to the National and Foreign Desk at ABC News in New York.

 

In 2007, Juliana Tafur’s KVRR report on Lou Gehrig’s Disease and cancer patients earned her a Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. 

 

Subsequently, Juliana co-produced, produced and wrote documentaries for National Geographic and several channels of the A&E Television Network including History and Bio. She also independently shot, produced, wrote, edited and directed “Rightful Yet Right-less”, a 49-minute documentary about the lives of Sudanese refugees in Cairo, Egypt. The documentary was selected as a 2008 Harry Chapin Media Awards finalist, for “outstanding coverage that positively impacts hunger, poverty and self-reliance”.
